Location The Houston Convention Center is located in downtown Houston, TX centrally located between the two coasts. The convention center is conveniently located near Houston's most popular restaurants, hotels, and shopping.. Parking The center now offers even more parking space with a new parking garage located at the corner of Polk Street and Avenida de las Americas. Conveniently connected to the GRBCC and the Hilton by Level 2 skywalks, parking couldn't be easier. Meeting Space Located in the heart of downtown Houston, the Convention Center has 1.2 million square feet of flexible exhibit, meeting and registration space. There are 7 exhibit halls which consist of 862,000 square feet of exhibit hall space. There is also an arena with telescopic seating for 6,000, suitable for large scale presentations, concerts, corporate meetings, and sporting events.

Although 50 miles inland from the Gulf of Mexico, Houston is one of the major seaports in the United States. Before there was a Houston there was a Harrisburg, a maritime trading post founded in 1824 by John Harris. In 1829 Harris died, leaving his brothers to resolve the inheritance of the town.
In 1836, the inheritance still unresolved, Augustus and John Allen attempted to purchase the town but found the price too high. They found a suitable plot of land farther up the bayou and established Houston, named for Gen. Sam Houston, who had just defeated the Mexicans at nearby San Jacinto.
