Location The Galveston Island Convention Center is located at the San Luis Resort in Galveston Island, TX overlooks the beautiful Gulf of Mexico. Meeting Space Located in the heart of Galveston Island, the Convention Center has 140,000 square feet of exhibit space, with state-of-the-art, multi level, multi-function meeting, exhibition and ballroom space in a stunning Gulf-front setting ideally located on a 30 acre resort. 12,000 square feet of breakout meeting space and 29,000 square feet of flexible pre-function are also available for multiple functions.

Gaslights, stately Victorian buildings and the clip-clop of carriages along the Strand have revived Galveston's late 19th-century urbanity. Yet during its first incarnation, this barrier island city 2 miles offshore in the Gulf of Mexico was anything but refined. In 1817 Jean Lafitte and his pirates took over the abandoned base of a Mexican revolutionary and renamed it Campeachy. The town was abandoned and burned when the United States forced Lafitte to leave in 1821. During the battle for Texans independence, the provincial government set up temporary headquarters. Galveston became the Republic's base of naval operations against Mexico and the temporary Texas capital in 1836.
